Mobile loading ramp allow you to significantly speed up the process of goods loading and unloading at the warehouse. Unlike stationary dock ramps, you can freely move them around the warehouse and far beyond with the help of the built-in transport base, which is a significant advantage.

The forklift lifts the edge of the ramp (there is a special place for a rigid coupling grasp) and brings it to the truck. Using manual hydraulics, one person presses the hydraulic pump handle and sets the required height of the ramp (from 900 mm to 1,650 mm).

After installation, the mobile loading ramp is securely fastened to the truck with two chains, and the wheels are fixed by chocks (chains and wheel chocks come complete with a ramp). Then the loaded forklift comes up the mobile ramp and goes directly into the truck or container.

Thus, one forklift driver is enough to carry out all loading and unloading operations. So you don’t need the worker who used to pull the loads with a trolley from/to the edge of the truck.

1. What is a warehouse ramp

Warehouse ramp is a metal construction, which provides a safe and efficient way to load and unload goods from trucks, storage containers.

The design of a mobile ramp can be divided into several main parts: the metal construction, the hydraulic part and the wheeled part.

1. Metal construction. In the construction of the mobile loading ramp AUSBAU, we use only the highest quality rolled metal. For example, 70% of the weight of the ramp falls on profile pipes of various sizes and sections. Using profile pipes in the construction of the ramp, we were able to achieve a reduction in self-weight of the product while increasing reliability. Profile pipes have 4 walls, which greatly increases the reliability of the mobile loading ramp.

2. Hydraulic part. The use of modern pumps and optimal selection of hydraulic cylinders ensure the most comfortable working conditions on the mobile ramp. We use Italian-made pumps, which have a 12-month warranty

3. Ramp moving device. And the last important element of the mobile loading ramp is its wheeled part. It can be made in the most various ways, but we are of the opinion that the use of solid rubber wheels is optimal.

2. Types of loading ramps

There are two main types of loading ramps: fixed and mobile.

A mobile ramp is a metal construction in the form of an inclined platform that levels the difference between the ground/warehouse surface and the truck body. Mobile ramps are used outdoors or indoors. One person with a forklift is enough to perform loading operations.

At the same time, the consumer may need a simpler type of loading ramp, such as AUSBAU-ST or AUSBAU-STB fixed ramps.

Depending on the material used in mobile ramps manufacturing, they can be divided into 2 types - I-beam ramp and ramp made of profile tube. 3. Requirements for a loading ramp

Before purchasing a mobile loading yard ramp, specify the main requirements for this ramp and what tasks mobile ramp must solve for you.

Thus, the most basic principles:

1. The loading on the ramp. You should buy the loading ramp for the existing warehouse equipment, or which will be used in the future. Meaning, before you buy a ramp, calculate total sum of weights of your heaviest forklift, its maximum load capacity and add 500 kg more. The loading capacity of the ramp will be a main parameter in order to buy a ramp.

2. Type of equipment used. Also, before buying a mobile ramp for a warehouse, find out what loader or other equipment will ride on the ramp. You can buy a short mobile loading ramp, but it will be difficult to drive up with the help of the electric forklift, although diesel truck drives up it without serious efforts.

3. Freight traffic. We strongly recommend you to buy a mobile loading yard ramp, if you have quite intensive traffic or the unloading processes without a ramp in your warehouse take a lot of time and efforts (tent opening, freight moving inside truck using hydraulic carts, etc.). If you have these conditions, we really recommend you to purchase a ramp, because it will save you time and money in the future.

4. The angle of inclination should provide a comfortable entry and exit on the mobile loading ramp for both loaded and empty forklift. It is more difficult for a loaded forklift to ride up because of the load, but in this case the wheels have better traction with the surface of the mobile ramp due to the pressure. An empty forklift is easier to drive "lightweight", but the contact area of its tires with the surface of the ramp is less than that of a loaded forklift.

5. Range of heights. It is necessary to determine the height range of the vehicle, which is suitable for unloading/loading processes to the mobile ramp, as it must cover it. If you often use low trucks, then it is advisable to order a mobile ramp with a lowered minimum height.

6. The possibility of placing the ramp in the warehouse. The loading ramp should help, not hinder. Take into account your own area of the territory. You need enough space to maneuver the mobile ramp and the availability of space for storage.

4. How long should the loading ramp be

There are several main aspects that determine how good the design of a mobile loading ramp is.

The first one is its length, since it is the length that determines the versatility of using a mobile loading ramp with the most diverse types of equipment. For example, it will be difficult for a loaded hand pallet truck to diver up a short ramp. The ramp’s design should be suitable for hydraulic trolleys, stackers, electric cars, and liquid fuel forklift trucks. At the same time, it’s difficult to move a ramp which is too long. Therefore, AUSBAU mobile ramps are designed to fit all the wheeled equipment and are comfortable to use.

The second is the quality of transportability of the mobile ramp. For example, AUSBAU mobile loading/unloading ramp AUSBAU has a pair of powerful wheels and its design takes into account the possibility of its pickup and movement by forklift truck and even people. This allows it to be moved around the factory in a variety of ways.

5. How high should the ramp be

If you have diesel forklifts, the most powerful type of forklift, then the inclined part of the forklift ramp can be quite steep. At the same time, if you are using electric forklifts, and not the most advanced ones, then the inclined part of the ramp will have to be smoother.

Also type of cargo influence on determining of requested angle of mobile ramp. For example, if the cargo is long (panels, wood bars etc.) it is reasonable to decrease difference between horizontal and inclined parts of the ramp.

Another important element for loading ramp angle is type of transport with which you usually work. If you work constantly with low-bed trailers, so the angle of ramp is smaller, because height of low-bed trailers is about 1000 mm. Height of standard tent trucks is about 1200 mm. The container on the platform due to its own bottom adds +160 mm. That means the height is already 1360mm. And finally, if you work with railway wagons, so the loading ramp angle should be enough in order to let forklift drive up the height 150-160 cm.

6. How wide the loading ramp must be

Usually, consumers do not pay much attention to the width of the loading ramp or recall it at the last moment. Due to more thoughtful and complex ramp designs, AUSBAU mobile loading ramps are wider than those ones of other manufacturers, while the dimensions of the equipment stay unchanged. The standard width of AUSBAU mobile ramp is calculated to fit most types of warehouse loaders. Forklift trucks, stackers, pallet trucks and even cars can move along our ramps.

But there are such types of wheeled equipment or goods that require non-standard loading ramp width. For example, some old heavy forklift trucks, such as LION-5, are wider than the standard ramp platform. If you have these trucks, we can increase the width of the ramp while keeping the overall width transportable. Thus, it will be possible to transport the ramp by ordinary transport, without overpaying for special oversized cargo transport. The width of the loading ramp is a variable parameter.
